Helen Elaine (Smallwood) Allen, age 100, of Casey, IL passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL. She was born February 21, 1922 in Jasper County near Wheeler, IL, the daughter of William Henry Smallwood and Mary Edith (Graham) Smallwood. On June 12, 1942 she married Glen Wilson Allen in Hidalgo, IL; he passed away on September 9, 2002.
Survivors include her sons, Edward "Eddie" Allen (Marge) of Casey, IL, Ron Allen (Pat Wernsing), of Effingham, IL and Wayne Allen of Casey, IL (Tressa Alwardt of Charleston, IL); brother, Dean Smallwood of Dundas, IL; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; and two step grandchildren, six great step grandchildren, and nine great great step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; granddaughter, Christy Lynn Allen; brothers, Summers, William, Duane, Donald, and Harold Gene Smallwood; and sister, Marie Duffeck.
Helen was a 1939 graduate of Newton High School. She was a homemaker and worked the family farm. Helen was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed hand sewing. She and her husband shared a passion of horses and enjoyed training and racing them. Helen also enjoyed bowling, reading, and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Joe Richard officiating. Burial will follow at Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
