Helen Marie Barnett Edmonds, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away, on October 17, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure. Born February 2, 1938 in Denison, Texas, to the parents of Edgar and Aretha Barnett, Helen later moved to Wichita Falls, where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1956.
Helen's life was defined by her fierce love for her children, a vibrant personality, her unique sense of humor, and a bold spirit. A true globe-trotter, she visited Paris, Germany, Jamaica, St. Thomas, and nearly every corner of the United States, spreading joy wherever she went. She also loved shopping for antiques and hidden treasures which led to her nickname "Good Junk Lady."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar, Sr. and Aretha Barnett; sisters, Doris Gobert, Edwina Thompson, Gladys Pruitt, Mae Anna Harris, and Tommie Cartwright; her loving husband of 37 years, Rev. Albert Edmonds, Jr., with whom she shared a beautiful life. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith, love, and perseverance.
Helen is survived by her brother, Edgar Barnett, Jr. (O'Linda); four children: Torence "Jay" LeGrand (Beverly), Albert Edmonds III, Chun Edmonds, and Candace "Candy" Bird (Roland); daughter-like niece, Beverly Jackson, (Alvin); Goddaughter, Diann Taylor (Thorney) and Godson, Johnny Taylor; twelve cherished grandchildren; eleven precious great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends
Helen will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew her for her warmth, wit, and zest for life. She leaves behind a loving family and a host of memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

I met Miss Helen a few years ago, through her daughter, my dear friend Candace Edmonds Bird. Candace was guest speaker at a program conducted in Miss Helen's church, and I had the honor and pleasure of sitting with Helen throughout the program. I was in awe of her energy and presence. Everyone seemed to know her, stopping her to converse, or just to give her a hug. While sitting with her, she regaled me with stories of her children, and her life in Wichita Falls. She so obviously loved her life, her family, and her Lord. I remember leaving Wichita Falls that day, feeling better for having met and spent time with Helen. She was a wonderful woman who welcomed me with open arms, and I'll never forget her for her kindness and zest for life.
