Helen Marie (Schubert) Scheidt passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her home in Bonner Springs, Kansas, on January 15, 2024. She was 95 years old.
Helen was born in 1928 in Piper, Kansas to Otto Schubert and Mary (Meade) Ruby. She grew up on a small farm with her parents and brother, Bud Schubert. She began working for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator in 1955, retiring in 1992 with a perfect attendance record. She was a long-term Member of the F.O.E Auxiliary.
She enjoyed bird watching, reading, and gardening. Helen was a passionate fan of KU basketball, getting her first and only tattoo of a Jayhawk in her 80's to prove it. She was an adventurous spirit and avid world traveler, having visited Europe, Australia, South and Central America, Egypt, Hawaii, and Alaska. Anyone who knew Helen knew that her biggest passion was her love of any and all animals, but especially dogs, cats, donkeys, spiders, or any random critter that was getting treats from her deck.
Helen is survived by daughters Mary Jane (Hale) Stolfus of Bonner Springs, Melanie Scheidt Wilson and husband Troy Wilson of Bonner Springs; grandchildren Chris Stolfus of Topeka, Sydney Stolfus and partner Caitlin Peterson of Portland, Maine, and AJ Stolfus and partner Tara Wolfe of Lawrence; great-grandchildren Lee Anna Coffelt and husband Jeff Robertson of Topeka, and Julie Nickle and husband Tyler Nickle of Kansas City, Kansas; great-great-grandchildren Dylan Robertson, Payton Robertson, Tucker Nickle, Carson Nickle, and Levi Nickle. She is preceded in death by her husbands Jack Hale and Charles Scheidt.
Services will be held at Alden Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs on Monday, January 22nd, with the visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. and the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Bonner Animal Rescue, at www.bonnerrescue.org.
