Helen L. Sheets

Helen L. Sheets, age 93, of DeMotte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025. She was born on April 18, 1932, in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late William and Mary (Arthur) Smallwood.
A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Helen graduated from Ball State University in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in education. She went on to teach for 12 years in the Wa-Nee School District, where she touched the lives of many students with her kindness and commitment. She retired from Napanee Water Dept after teaching. In July 1954, Helen married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Sheets, in Metz, Indiana. They shared a beautiful life together until his passing in 2017.
Helen was a devoted member of the DeMotte United Methodist Church and a former member of the Eastern Star. She especially enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Jean (Bob) Nuss and Donna (Mark) Adam; cherished grandchildren, Katie Nuss (Pablo) Sanchez, Shelly (Josh) Kast, and Jessie Nuss (Andrew) Ledman; and adored great-grandchildren, Quentin, Titus, Robbie and Mark. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Keith Smallwood.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Jackson Funeral Service on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Gaylynn Dykman officiating. Interment will follow at Holland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DeMotte United Methodist Church or Oak Grove Christian Village.
Helen will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and unwavering love for her family and community.
