Ms. Henrietta Koffi, of Hopewell, mother of three, grandmother of two, sister of six, an artist, entrepreneur, teacher and lifelong student - passed on this September the 11th of 2023, at 66 years of age. She was born on March 21st, 1957 to Samuel and Angelica Walker in New York City. After attending the prestigious Northfield Mount Hermon preparatory school, she graduated from St John's University with an Associate of Science degree in Photography.
Henrietta worked as a photographer, and then later joined the non-profit Fort Greene SNAP to run their computer lab and teach classes on technology. She worked there for nearly 15 years, eventually serving as deputy director of the organization. She continued to apply her dedication to community service for more than 6 years at the HOPE program, another Brooklyn-based organization dedicated to building skills and providing support for vulnerable members of our community.
She loved to read, and has kept many of her favorite books with her over many moves over hundreds of miles. She especially liked sci-fi, fantasy and romance novels.
In recent years, Henrietta discovered a passion for creating art. She took courses in a number of art forms including drawing, painting, sewing, and Japanese quilting and has produced a number of beautiful pieces for her family and friends.
Henrietta leaves behind her children Juan, Babakan, and Motanou, her grandchildren Naomi and Kez, her siblings Samuel Jr., Robert, Ruth, Daniel, and Raquel, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog, Kobe. She is predeceased by her parents Angelica and Samuel, and her sister Diana (Misty).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am, Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Petersburg chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg, VA. Rev. Calvin Lewis Sr., officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Monday, September 18th at the funeral home.
