Henry John Gallagher

Henry John Gallagher, of Woodlyn, passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 84 years old. He was born in Chester, PA on Christmas Eve 1940 to the late Henry and Hazel (Scott) Gallagher.
Henry graduated in 1958 from St. James Catholic High School in Chester. Shortly after, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country proudly from 1958-1962 while stationed in Philadelphia and was honorably discharged. He started his career at Scott Paper Company in 1962 in Research & Development where he retired in 1997.
Henry loved to go crabbing on his boat in Maryland and especially liked Tilghman Island and Wye Mills. He also enjoyed hunting and camping in Hamburg, PA and would often be spotted cruising around in his iconic red Chevy van and his VW Beetle, which he affectionately named "Herbie". He also enjoyed many road trips and adventures with his beloved dog, Benji, sitting right beside him in the passenger seat.
Henry was loved by all his neighbors in Derwood Park and was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. His generosity extended beyond the neighborhood as he supported many charitable causes like the Special Olympics, Boys Town and the Navy Memorial Fund.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Gallagher; his daughter, Sharon Gallagher; his nephew, Sean Mullen; and his great-niece, Charlotte Gallagher.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Ahonen) Gallagher; his sister, Miriam Mullen (Bill); his sons, Michael Gallagher (Lee Ann); Daniel Gallagher (Vicky); and John Gallagher (Theresa); his daughters, Susan Mayo (Bill); Lisa Romano (Chris); Desiree Ward (Dwayne); and Kimberly Schumaker (Pat); his grandchildren, Mikey, Stephanie, Nick, Erin, Mary Kate, Maggie, Matthew, Aaron, Ava, Tess and his great-granddaughter; his nephew, Davey; his niece, Chrissy; and Uncle to many great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Henry's life at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. After the service, interment will be held at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood.
