Henry C. Hansen Jr., born on March 6, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the age of 86. A longtime resident of Dearborn, Michigan, Henry was the beloved husband of Barbara (Lowe) Hansen for 60 wonderful years.
He was the proud and loving father of Diane Hansen and Gail (Carl) Gruener, and a cherished uncle to Chris, Greg, Karen, Arlene, and Sue. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Jessie Hansen, and his brother Wallace (Prudie) Hansen. He leaves behind many other dear family members and lifelong friends who will miss him deeply.
Henry earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business and Transportation from Michigan State University in 1963. While at MSU, he met the love of his life, Barbara, and they were married a year later at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in White Lake, Michigan.
In 1970, they relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, where Henry worked as a salesman for a men's clothing store and mastered the art of tailoring men's suits. After 14 years of marriage, Henry and Barbara were overjoyed to welcome two daughters, Diane and Gail, into their lives. The family returned to Michigan in 1987, where Henry joined a company that manufactured circuit boards.
Following his retirement, Henry pursued his lifelong interest in history by serving as a Model T Driver and Master Historical Presenter at The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village-a role he cherished deeply.
Henry also found joy in trains and model railroading, and he loved watching freighters navigate the Detroit River and Great Lakes. A devoted family man and friend, Henry never met a stranger. His captivating storytelling, warmth, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met-and he was famously the last to leave any gathering.
He took immense pride in Diane's service as a Naval Reservist and traveled across the country to visit Gail wherever her career led, including Virginia, California, Texas, and Pennsylvania. In his later years, Henry found spiritual fulfillment through singing in the church choir and participating in the men's prayer group.
Visitation will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of Voran Funeral Home, 23701 Ford Road, Dearborn, MI. For inquiries, please call (313) 278-5100.
Henry will lie in state on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 20710 Colgate, Dearborn Heights, MI 48125. Interment will follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Maria Goretti Parish. Friends are invited to share memories and leave condolences on Henry's tribute wall and guestbook.
