August 14, 1938 – March 7, 2025
Lafayette: Henry Matthew passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on Sunday, August 14, 1938, in Lafayette Louisiana. Henry was a loving husband to Barbara, a beloved father to his children, an adoring grandfather to his grandchildren and a cherished friend to many.
Henry was a proud 1959 graduate of Holy Rosary Institute. Following graduation, Henry enlisted in the military and was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force. He was also a United States Postal Service retiree. He traveled the world with Barbara, amassed an extensive music collection, and was a gifted storyteller. He earned a diploma as an industrial electrician and could fix anything.
Henry will be fondly remembered by his children, Tod Anthony Matthew (Darlene Corbett), Deborah Ann Frederick (Charles L. Frederick, Jr.), and Christopher Stephen Matthew (Pamela Chretien), his grandchildren, Tod Christopher Matthew, Chelsea Renee Stone, Andrew Steven Matthew, Charles Lloyd Frederick III, Alicia Brooke Matthew, Kristen Teresa Daugherty, and seven great grandchildren. Also left to treasure his memory is his brother Lester Matthew, and sister-in-law Doris Labrie Matthew.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Jolivette Matthew, and the love of his life, Barbara Barra Matthew.
A Catholic mass will be held at St. Genevieve Church on Friday, March 21 at 10:00am.
Visitation be held from 8:00 am until the time of service and a rosary recited at 9:00 am. The Very Rev. Chester Arceneaux, V.F. will officiate.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
