Henry Richard Meditz, known to all as Hank, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 79, in
Morristown, New Jersey. He died peacefully following respiratory failure due to aspiration pneumonia.
Hank was born on November 14, 1946, in
Brooklyn, New York, to Richard and Frieda Meditz (Recher). He spent his early years in Brooklyn and later made his home in New Jersey, spending the majority of his adult life residing in West Milford.
He was a devoted father to his three sons, Richard Meditz, Anthony Meditz, and David Meditz, and a loving and proud grandfather to his cherished grandchildren: Michael, Ryan, Brayden, Matthew, Jack, and Lily. Hank took immense pride in his family and found his greatest joy in watching his sons-and later his grandchildren-grow, learn, and pursue their own interests. Time spent with them, especially on the golf course, was among his happiest.
Hank was preceded in death by his father, Richard Meditz, who passed away on June 25, 1955, and his mother, Frieda Meditz (Recher), who passed away on November 15, 1985. He is also remembered by his cousin and lifelong friend Frank Kropf, whose friendship spanned decades and remained a meaningful part of Hank's life.
Hank attended Saint Francis Prep and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from Baruch College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from September 19, 1966, to June 12, 1970, receiving an honorable discharge and attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Professionally, Hank built a long and successful career in corporate finance and taxation. He retired in 2009 at the age of 62 from the Omnicom Group, where he served as an International Tax Director. He was respected for his intelligence, work ethic, and strong will-qualities that defined much of his life.
Hank was first married to Regina Horowitz in 1966. In 1973, he married Elizabeth Caltabiano, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage until 2003. Though their marriage ended, they remained dear friends until his passing-a testament to the respect and bond they shared.
A man of deep conviction, Hank was strong willed and passionate, especially when it came to the people and pursuits he loved. He was an avid golfer from boyhood through his seventies and cherished playing with friends, but most of all with his sons and grandsons. Another lifelong passion was model railroading. Hank meticulously built, painted, and weathered his models with remarkable patience and precision, continuing this hobby right up until his final days. It was a reflection of his careful nature and quiet creativity.
Hank was also a devout Catholic, and his faith was central to his life. He gave generously of his time to the Church, volunteering at food pantries and serving as a trained and commissioned Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, including bringing Communion to the sick and homebound. His faith guided how he lived, how he served others, and how he faced life's challenges. He also had a lifelong love for his canine companions, each dog holding a special place in his heart and his home.
Hank will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, a loyal friend, a man of faith, and someone who lived with purpose, discipline, and quiet devotion to the things that mattered most.
Dad, we all love you deeply and miss you more than words can say. We take comfort in knowing that you are now at peace with God, reunited with those who went before you, and resting in the eternal love you so faithfully believed in. May your soul rest in peace.
