Herbert Gibson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Herbert Joseph Gibson Sr. on January 4, 2025, at the age of 76. Herbert was born on September 27, 1948, in New Orleans, LA, to the late Edward and Elcede Gibson.
Herbert graduated from George Washington Carver Senior High School in 1965 and soon enlisted in the United States Army. He quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class, showcasing his dedication and leadership. Following his initial service, Herbert re-enlisted with the vision and determination to serve until full military retirement. Unfortunately, due to declining health, he transitioned to civilian life earlier than planned.
Herbert pursued various careers throughout his life, including working as a baker at a donut shop, serving as a Deputy Sheriff at the New Orleans Parish Prison, and dedicating years of service to the Housing Authority of New Orleans, among other roles in which he excelled.
Herbert is survived by his children: Lynne Gibson-Gleiber (Dennis), Tonya Gibson-Williams (Karl), Shawn Patrice Jenkins, and Herbert Gibson Jr.
He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Ronnie Gibson-Medrano, Bria K. Williams, Corey and Calvin Gibson, Italy Gibson, and LaChaune Ariane Jenkins.
After retiring from the military and the workforce, Herbert devoted much of his time to the golf course, his favorite pastime and hobby. He proved to be an excellent golfer, finding joy and fulfillment in the sport.
Herbert was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Ranson Sr. He is survived by his siblings: David Gibson (Vanessa), Ursula Porche, Madelyn Brown, Rev. Harold Gibson (Annie), and Eric Gibson.
He is also survived by his beloved aunt, Claudette Huntington, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends who loved him dearly.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all who have shown love and support through thoughtful gestures, flowers, calls, messages, and visits during this time of bereavement. May God's grace and mercy continue to shine upon you all.
Herbert's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A service honoring Herbert's life will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, 10:00AM, at Professional Funeral Services, 1449 N. Claiborne Ave, NOLA. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the hour of service. Interment will take place at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA at 12:30 p.m.
