Herbert T. Giles, 91, of Linesville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Born January 11, 1934, in Saegertown, he was the son of Sheridan and Rose (Tarr) Giles. He married Rosemary Avey on December 21, 1957, in Wicken, England. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2016.
Herb served our country in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1960 and was stationed in England where he built bridges, roads and runways. He was awarded the Armed Forces Longevity Award and Good Conduct Medal. For many years, he worked in the oil fields as a heavy equipment operator. Herb also had served as Conneaut Township Supervisor.
He was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville. He was also a member of the Linesville American Legion Post 462.
Herb enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking, making his famous jelly, and playing cards. He had built numerous ponds in the area. He loved his neighbor lady’s (Rosie) cats.
He cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone knew him as an ornery old bugger.
Survivors include four daughters, Vickie (John) Petruso, Rosalee (Francis) Rose, Debbie (Vern) Wickham and Lindy (Roger) Graham; a son, Steven (Dianne) Giles; 15 grandchildren, Susan (Tony) Imposimato, Neil (Penny) Braswell, Monica (Cameron) Johnson, Michael (Hope) Young, Marcus (Reneta) Young, Nathan (Bri) Young, Heather (Joshua) Yeager, Elyn (Ashley) Wickham, Tyler Wickham (Fiancé, Alyx Hanson), Haillee Wickham (Fiancé, Brady Stell), Jennifer (Mike) Lisko, Jeffery Graham, Matthew (Hannah) Giles, Bridget Wilson and Steven Giles; many great-grandchildren one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Joan Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant granddaughter, Alli Rae Wickham; two sisters, Luanna and Sara; and four brothers, Russ Grant, Si and Sam.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 25 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville. A rosary service will be conducted at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, with Father Chris Hamlett as celebrant. Additional calling hours will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Philip Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip Altar and Rosary Society, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, Pa 16424.
