Herbert McCoy, age 72, of Big Rock, Virginia, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 in a Roanoke, Virginia hospital.
He was born in McDowell County, West Virginia and was the son of the late F.B. McCoy and Rine Lester McCoy. He was a life long resident of the area and was a retired coal miner. He loved to work outdoors and especially loved working on vehicles and traveling all the time. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Marie McCoy; son, Herbert Ray McCoy; and two brothers, Hobert and Herman McCoy.

Loving Companion of 30 years: Sherry Lane
Step Children: Kayla and Jeremy Hess of Richlands; Katy and JJ Rife of Richlands; Jessica and Joel Knuth of Georgia; Christopher and Ashley Banuelos of Speedwell, VA; and Heather Lane of Tennessee

Ruby Spurlock and husband, Bushy of Hurley, Virginia
Bertha May and husband, Greg of Hurley, Virginia
Dolly Blankenship and husband, Vernor of Hurley, Virginia

Cleo Matney of Oakwood, Virginia
Brother: Harold McCoy and wife, Ginger of Hurley, Virginia
Nineteen Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Herbert McCoy will be conducted Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 1pm at the Pine Grove Old Regular Baptist Church, 3977 Old Guesses Fork Road, Hurley, Virginia 24620 with Elders Danny McCoy and Danny Hurley officiating. Interment will follow at the Morgan McCoy Family Cemetery on Old Guesses Fork near Hurley, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may visit at the church on Monday evening after 5pm. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia is in charge of arrangements and those wishing to express sympathy online may do so at www.hurstscottfuneralhomes.com
