Herbert J. “Jay” Schmoock, Jr., 89, of Quakertown, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at LifeQuest.
Born on September 24, 1936, in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Herbert John and Thelma Mae (Dillon) Schmoock, Sr.
A graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School’s Class of 1954, he went on to become a successful businessman. He owned and operated H. Jay Schmoock Construction—a company that built homes and remodeled post offices—for over forty years, retiring in 2002.
Outside of work, he was an avid polo player for twenty-seven years. He was a member of Chukker Valley Polo Club and played in matches along the East Coast and once in Bogotá. He also found joy in bowling, golfing, mowing the grass in later years, as well as deer and fox watching.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson: John J. Schmoock, Jr., who passed away in 2018; and two brothers: Herbert D. Schmoock and Walter Schmoock.
Jay will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-eight years: Patricia Ann (Bortz) Schmoock, to whom he wed on August 10, 1957; sons: Herbert J. Schmoock, III (Lori), John J. Schmoock (Susan Reinhard), and Thomas J. Schmoock (Sherrie); granddaughter: Tara Muschera (Michael); and brother: Kim Schmoock (Debbie).
