A LIFE OF SERVICE AND STRENGTH

football team. Known for his discipline and strong work ethic, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, during the
Vietnam War Era, serving honorably from January 2, 1964 to July 3, 1967.
Following his military service, Herbert pursued a higher education at Baptist College. In 1970, he began a distin guished career with the Little Rock Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become Captain in 1980-
a title he held with deep pride and responsibility. In addition to his firefighting career, Herbert continued serving his
country by joining the Arkansas National Guard from 1984 to 2003. After his retirement, he remained active in his
community and worked with the Little Rock Convention Center. He continued his education at Pulaski Technical
College through the Veterans Upward Bound program.
A FAITHFUL MAN
Herbert's spiritual foundation was built at Cross Street Christian Church, where he grew up. In his later years, he
united with New Beginning Fellowship Baptist Church in North
Little Rock, AR, where he faithfully served until his
passing. At New Beginning, Herbert was more than just a member-he was a pillar of the church. He served as a
trustee, Sunday School teacher, yard man, custodian, and was affectionately known as "Mr. Fix-it" for his willingness to lend a hand wherever needed. His dedication, humility, and servant's heart left an unforgettable mark on his
church family.
A LIFE WELL LIVED
Outside of his work and ministry, Herbert enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to fish, play golf, and stay
active by working out regularly at the Patrick Hayes Center. Whether casting a line, perfecting his swing, or staying
fit, he found joy in staying engaged and connected with his community. His energy and enthusiasm were a reflection of a life well lived-with purpose, passion, and peace
