Herman O. Hilke, 94, of Marietta, Georgia, died Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Canterfield of Kennesaw Assisted Living Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Gross Hilke. Survivors include a sister, Sondra, 2 daughters, Barbara & Donna, 2 sons, Patrick & John, 3 Grandchildren, Sabrina, Olivia & Adam and 1 Great Grandchild, Levi.
Herman was an electrician by trade and served in both the Navy & Air Force. He worked for several airlines, retiring with Delta Airlines. He was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church and sang in the Choir. He was a loving, caring person who always took care of others first and foremost. He enjoyed life and was always the life of the party at all the many special occasions he attended. He was the first to get up and dance and lead the conga line. He was stubborn and fiercely independent but when it was time to ask for help, he willingly and cheerfully accepted it. He wanted to go to the assisted living facility when he saw all the activities they had there. He was deemed the de-facto Social Director because he always made sure to make friends with all the newcomers and introduced them to the current residents. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
A Mass of Resurrection will be offered in his memory on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2pm followed by a reception at the Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1815 Blackwell Rd NE, Marietta, 30066, phone #770-977-1442. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Transfiguration.
