WEST ENFIELD - Hermon H. Ireland, Sr., 85, passed away on October 20, 2025. He was born on July 27, 1940, the son of Obediah and Alfreda (Brown) Ireland, in Chester, Maine.
Hermon was an avid sportsman and Registered Maine Guide, an achievement he was most proud of. The outdoors was where he most wanted to be whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, working on his property or tending his beloved gardens. In his younger years he enlisted in the Army where he served two years, including a stint in Germany. He was a logger back in the day when working in the woods was a much more manual process in comparison to modern day operations, harvesting logs involved hitching up to work horses. He was no stranger to a long hard day of work. After working a few other jobs, he settled into truck driving. He enjoyed that way of life on the open road. Even on his days off, it was nothing for him to just head out for a day's journey, stopping off at "this" restaurant or "that" store, he knew them ALL. Taking a day trip with Hermon was nothing to be rushed.
Herman married his wife Carol Gray on May 18, 1975. They spent the majority of their years settled in on the Mohawk Rd. in West Enfield.
Along with his parents, Hermon is predeceased by two younger brothers, Victor and Russel; his oldest son, Brent and youngest son, Joel; a granddaughter, Katie and multiple infant grand angels.
Along with his wife Carol, he is survived by his children, Lynn (Troy) Arthurs, Julie Ireland, Shawn (Laurie) Ireland, Herman Jr. "Lee" (Heather) Ireland, Cory (Lianne) Stratton, and Susan Stratton, as well as his oldest brother, Vernon (Debi) Ireland and his only sister, Beulah Gooch and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11:00am at the South Lincoln Cemetery on the Mohawk Rd., with Pastor Mark York officiating. A potluck Celebration of Life to follow at the Marianne Municipal Building in Chester, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bowers Funeral Home to help defer the costs associated with their services.
