David Amburgey was born on February 24, 1952 in Seymour, Indiana and passed away July 2, 2024 surrounded by his dear family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Rena Amburgey and his children Scott Amburgey and his wife Sally Amburgey, Jason Amburgey and his wife Meghan Amburgey, 8 grandchildren Charlie, Liam, Scarlett, Staci, Zoe, Jewel, Bradley and Caden along with great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ola-Mae Amburgey, his father Utah Amburgey, sisters Joyce and Sandra Amburgey, brother George Amburgey, and his beloved son Matthew Amburgey. David frequently spoke about his great love for his mother expressing appreciation for her love and the wonderful things she taught him. Ola-Mae loved gardening and David talked about her beautiful garden with hydrangeas, peonies and gardenias.
David loved his family dearly and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. David grew up in a small town called North Vernon, Indiana. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He spent a lot of time fishing and joy riding with his grandson Charlie, who loved hearing Grandpas silly stories of "back in the day", and how it was when he was growing up, and singing, especially to the Beatles. Dave always had something up his sleeve for his grandchildren, who he loved unconditionally. He thoroughly enjoyed surprising them with gifts, the occasional water ballon fights or a trip to a fun adventure. He loved to travel, especially with his wife Rena and they shared a love of venturing to new places and trying the latest food trail or taking a relaxing stroll on the beach together. David always enjoyed hearing the waves rolling in. He had a love for sports cars (old and the new). He loved music and especially enjoyed live music and going to concerts with his dear friends.
David loved to cook and for many years extended hospitality to traveling overseers, inviting them along with a few friends to his home for his famous brisket, vegetable dishes along with a homemade cake which was usually super sweet due to his 'secret' ingredient of lots of candy bars. David loved entertaining the friends in his congregation with his DJ skills and took great pride in his amazing sound system and always loved either putting together or supporting gatherings for various occasions.
David loved to talk about how he learned Bible truth and came to know the true God Jehovah. It all started in 1977 when he found the book "The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life" in the back of a taxi. The 'Truth' book was first published in 1968 and the 1975 Guinness book of records included it in the list of highest printings. David and his family studied with Roy and Evelyn Oatman for a time and some years later David resumed his study and dedicated his life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 1st 1986. David cherished and put great faith in God's promise of everlasting life and the resurrection hope along with the joyful prospect of being reunited with family and friends he had lost in death.
His love for Jehovah moved him to have a regular share and speak at every opportunity about the 'Good News of God's Kingdom' and he delighted to share God's name Jehovah and help individuals learn what a loving God and Father he is. Over the years his love for preaching the 'Good News' moved him to share in full-time service as a regular pioneer, and he enjoyed the privilege of attending pioneer school along with 25 of his brothers and sisters and instructors Lynn Godfrey and John Adamson in 1999. Long before SMPW David enjoyed public witnessing in Downtown Austin. Additionally, he spent time sharing sack lunches with those that were in need and homeless.
One of David's favorite scriptures was Revelations 21:4 which promises " he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." This scripture gave him so much hope and the prospect of seeing his loved ones again in the resurrection to a Paradise earth where 'death will be no more'. He will truly be missed, and we look forward to seeing the day when Jehovah awakes him in that Paradise earth alive and well. (Job 14:15, John 11:25, Acts 24:15)
