Hiroko Matsumoto Gatten

Mrs. Hiroko "Mickey" Gatten, 93 of Chesapeake, VA and formerly of Holt, Missouri, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on December 15, 2025. She was born in Osaka, Japan February 10, 1932 and came to the United States at the age of 24, where she built a life defined by devotion, creativity and kindness. In her early career, Hiroko worked as a supervisor for a fishing gear manufacturing company and later for a toy company. She was a faithful and dedicated military spouse, married to the late Harry Gatten, Sr. who honorably served 33 years in the United States Marine Corps. He predeceased her as well as her son, William (Lloyd) Gatten.

Hiroko was a talented artist who enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She had a deep love for animals. Known for her compassionate heart, she was a dedicated spouse, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a truly sweet woman whose kindness touched all who knew her. Hiroko was also a faithful servant of Northern Hills Baptist Church in Holt, Missouri. There she generously offered her artistic talents by painting

murals and teaching art, blessing both the church and the community.

Her legacy will remain strong through her Children: Ruth Worman, Elmer Gatten and Harriett Beitia; her brother Yoshio; her Grandchildren: Veronica, Nikki, Jamie and Amanda; and her Great Grandchildren, Alex, Easton, Ava and Emma.
