It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Horst Roch, age 84, passed away at his home on January 22, 2025 with his family by his side. He was born in Wiartel, located in East Prussia (Germany), and immigrated to the United States in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army beginning in 1962, first in Korea and then in Vietnam as a paratrooper and sharpshooter. After his military service, he went back to Germany and married Heike Voss. The couple settled down in Philadelphia, PA before moving to Houston, Texas in 1979. In 1994, they moved to Dover, Arkansas, buying a small farm, before moving to Newnan in 2012 to be closer to their daughter in Atlanta. He worked as a cabinetmaker, had his own cabinet making shop, and also managed real estate. He often sought out new ideas and innovative ways of doing things and enjoyed raising pigeons and other animals. He was brave, determined, and almost always was undertaking or finishing a new project.
He was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to his beloved wife, Heike, for more than 58 years. Together, they enjoyed trips to close and faraway places as well as their daily life. He was also a loving father, playing games with his daughters and later with his grandchildren. He offered support, hugs, and jokes enjoyed the most by his eldest daughter Sylvia. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Heike Roch; by his two daughters, Dr. Sylvia Roch (Dr. Rusty Blue) of Clifton Park, NY, and Dr. Christine Roch (Dr. Aaron Roseberry) of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, Jordan Blue, Reilley Blue, Nathaniel Blue, Nora Roseberry.
There will be no immediate funeral. He will be buried at a later time at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
