Hortense F. Colander, 77, entered eternal rest and peace surrounded by her family on November 25, 2025 in Garner, NC. She was born on October 12, 1948 in Suffolk, VA . She was the daughter of the late James Parker and Dorothy Everett (Leslie Everett). She graduated from the Class of 1966 from Suffolk High School, (before she attended Booker T. Washington HS) in Suffolk, VA. Hortense later attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was the loving wife of 53 years to the Late Bishop John Colander. She was a missionary at Faith Temple Apostolic Church and a US Postal Service Retiree. Hortense served for several years as missionary at Faith Temple Apostolic Church under Pastor, the late Bishop Dr. Obadiah Colander. She attended West Clayton Church of Clayton, NC. and was a lifetime member of Faith Temple Apostolic, Suffolk, VA.

She loved chocolate, sewing, catering, attending track and field events over the years with her daughter and grandchildren and spending quality time with her family.

Hortense was predeceased by one sister, Gwendolyn Gambrell and brother, Timothy Everett (Shirley).

She leaves to honor and cherish her memories, two daughters; Kris Colander Ross and Latasha Colander Clark (Howard), six grandchildren: Randolph D. Ross, Jr., Jonah Ross, Krisjon J. Clark, Randolph J. Ross, Christian J. Clark and Kyrsten L. Clark. She leaves one brother, Rev. Donald Everett, one goddaughter, Amisha Lunsford and two godsons; Steve Green and Vandell Frazier, a host of nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
