Houston N. Roberts, 97 formerly of McAlester, passed from this earthly life to his Heavenly home Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery officiated by Chaplain Gregg Joki of Rivercross Hospice. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honors Team. Oklahoma Patriot Guard will also be recognizing his military service. Burial will follow.
Houston Nathaniel was born to Olen Edgar and Jewell Annie (Wortham) Roberts on September 2, 1925 in Kinta, Oklahoma. Houston was raised near Kinta on the family farm and attended Kinta school. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Later, as a reservist, he was called to active duty for the Korean War.
Houston married Eupalee Johnson Miller on January 22, 1954 in McAlester. They raised three daughters: Susan, Janet and Molly.
He was employed as a supply clerk for the US Navy Ammunition Depot/ McAlester Army Ammunition Plant for over thirty years.
Houston then worked for ten years as support staff for McAlester Public Schools.
Houston was a kind, loving and dedicated husband, father grandfather, brother, and friend. For many years he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and completing word finds. Over the years, he also enjoyed watching television shows especially boxing and football. In his later years, he was known for his quips, songs, poems and rhyming abilities. He inspired many by his cheerful and positive attitude.
Houston was preceded in death by his parents, Olen E. Roberts and Jewell A. Roberts; wife, Eupalee (Miller) Roberts; sister, Mary K. Aldridge; and a brother, Tom Roberts.
He is survived by daughters, Susan Carman and husband, George of Sapulpa; Janet Howard and husband, Rich of Kansas City, Missouri; Molly Roseman and husband, Jacob of Schofield, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Katie Thompson and husband, Zach, Blake Carman and wife, Haley; great grandchildren, Charlotte Thompson, Theo Thompson, Benny Carman; brother, O. W. Roberts and wife, Karen; sister, Dora Dean Nash; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
The family wishes to extend special appreciation to Legend at Tulsa Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care and Rivercross Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Houston.
