Howard "Junior" Lawson Jr., a cherished family man and a respected member of his community, passed away on November 20, 2025, at his residence in Millersburg, Kentucky. Born on March 19, 1949, in Hamlin, West Virginia, Junior would become a figure synonymous with kindness, joy, and an unyielding spirit of generosity.
Junior's life was a testament to hard work and dedication. As a proud high school graduate, he entered the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War; after he came home, he channeled his work ethic into a fulfilling career as a courier for Kentucky Bank, where he was not just an employee, but a friend to many. His colleagues will remember him for both his reliable nature and the smile he brought to the workplace each day.
Throughout his life, Junior's passion for building hot rods was evident to all who knew him. His eyes would light up as he spoke about engines and paint jobs, and he generously shared this enthusiasm with his friends and family, often found tinkering in his garage on a sunny afternoon. But above all, it was the time he spent with family that he cherished most deeply.
Junior is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis Lawson, who was his lifelong companion and best friend. Together, they raised a remarkable family, including sons GT Lawson (and wife Suzanne) and Johnny Lawson (Sherry Randall). His legacy will live on in his grandchildren, Abby Howard, Emma, Ashton, and Jalen Lawson, who will carry his love and life lessons into the future. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren Hutson, Carson, and Finley Howard.
He leaves behind his siblings Cynthia (and husband Butch) Noel, Paul (and wife Carolyn) Davis, Brenda (and husband Gary) Thompson, and Richard (and wife Marie) Browning, who will miss his guidance and endless support. Junior was preceded in death by his sister Linda Florence and his parents, Gilbert and Dolly Davis, as well as his cherished mother and father-in-law, Hattie and Tommy Lemons, and his brother and sister in-laws, Phillip Lemons and Kathy Abner.
Junior's life was a beautiful mosaic of moments shared with those he loved. His memory will be held close in the hearts of those who knew him as they celebrate the profound impact he made throughout his 76 years. With his passing, Junior left behind more than just memories; he left a blueprint on how to live life with joy, how to love without reserve, and how to leave a lasting mark on the world. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM Tuesday November 25, 2025, at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home Chapel, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY. The arrangements were entrusted to the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home, 1120 Main Street, Paris, KY.
