Obituary of Howard W. "Skip" Miller
A long time resident of Turtle Creek, Skip passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 20, 2025, just one week after his 92nd birthday.
Skip was the beloved and devoted husband of Marlene A. (McGuiggan) Miller for 65 years since May 30, 1959.
He was the loving and treasured father of Daniel (Linda) Miller of North Versailles, David (Linda) Miller of Turtle Creek and Sandra (Steven) Raudabaugh of Myrtle Beach.
Skip was the cherished grandfather of Daniel Miller, Kayla Miller; Sally Joe (Theodore) Guzik-Jones, Jamie-Lynn Schweitzer and Shawna Miller.
He was the proud great-grandfather of Theo Guzik-Jones and two expected great grandchildren.
Skip is also survived by many nieces and nephews as Skip was the youngest and last survivor of 11 children.
Skip was a proud graduate of Turtle Creek High School, class of 1951. His commitment to service was evident early on when he answered the call to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. One of his duties was entering North Korea to humbly receive and return fallen comrades to the United States. His dedication to his country was a hallmark of his character, a trait that would continue to define his life's work.
For 40 years, Skip served the Turtle Creek community as a respected employee/fire truck driver for the Turtle Creek Fire Department. Even after retiring at the age of 62, he continued to serve as a volunteer firefighter, never truly hanging up his helmet.
In addition to fighting fires, Skip was a founding member and volunteer of the Rescue 2 ambulance service in Turtle Creek.
Skip's dedication to his community extended beyond emergency services. While employed at the Fire Department, he also drove a school bus during the morning shift. Skip was also a volunteer and usher at St. Colman Church for many years.
Skip's favorite pastime was playing cards with friends and family. Later in life, he embraced technology and enjoyed playing on his iPad.
Skip's life was one of selflessness and his community bids farewell to him with a deep sense of gratitude for the time he so generously shared for all.
All are welcome on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, PA 15145, (412) 823-9350 where a Fireman Service will be held at 6pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Colman Church (St. Joseph the Worker Parish) in Turtle Creek on Monday at 10 a.m.
Skip will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to: Turtle Creek Fire Department, 125 Monroeville Avenue, Turtle Creek, PA 15145
