Howard Lee Sprague

Howard Lee Sprague, 85, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, due to heart failure.
Born on April 28, 1940, in Suffern, New York, Howard was a man of great humor, passion, civic duty and love for his family and friends. He spent his early years in Suffern, New York and Florence, New Jersey, and was a proud graduate of Florence Township Memorial High School Class of 58. He honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the National Guard.
Howard dedicated the majority of his career to the insurance industry, working as an Customer Service Representative, Agent and Financial Advisor. He was a staunch believer in community engagement and a faithful Catholic, who was actively involved in local politics, serving as a precinct committeeman. His civic passion extended to running for Arizona Congress and even appearing on the ballot for President of the United States.
After retiring, Howard found a new passion as an author, penning several books, including biographies, fiction, and children's stories. He was a dependable friend to many and loved to share his great sense of humor through stories and jokes. He was a dedicated Dodgers fan, thrilled by their recent World Series win. Howard was active right up to the end, bowling with his friends in a men's league the week of his passing.
Howard is preceded in death by his son Charles Sprague; mother, Jane ONeil; his father, Howard Lee Sprague; his brother, Robert Sprague; and his sister, Blanche Ridgeway.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Vickie; their six children: Vincent, Jamie, Charles, Edward, Kristen, and Benjamin; and ten cherished grandchildren: Eddie, Hayden, Ryleigh, Anna Alicia, Amanda, Howie, Gabe, Tatum, Alayna, and Connor.
Services in his honor will be held in Arizona at Messinger Pinnacle Peak
