Huey Alvin Dowden

Funeral services for Huey A. Dowden will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Jeane's Funeral Service, 100 E. Union St. Leesville, LA. The burial will follow in Leesville Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Jason Karamales, Corey LeBlanc, Jared LeBlanc, Jason Johnson, Jerry Dowden, and Arno Arpke.
A visitation will be held at Jeane's on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Huey was born March 5, 1934, in Leesville, Louisiana and passed away in Colfax, Louisiana March 23, 2023, at the age of 89. He proudly enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War and served aboard two aircraft carriers as an Air Frames mechanic. After his service, he returned to Leesville and shortly after married his love, Betty Lewis, on December 9, 1956. They raised a beautiful family together and enjoyed summer vacations out west. Before retirement, he had a 32-year civilian career at Fort Polk as a sheet metal mechanic. Huey was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and sporting events – especially LSU football, baseball, and NASCAR. He always had a flourishing vegetable garden.
Huey was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty, after 47 years together; parents, Isadore and Nancy Legg Dowden; brothers, J.B. Dowden, Glen Dowden, Gilbert Dowden, and Ray Dowden; one sister, Elouise Dowden all of Leesville; and his second wife, Joyce Todd Dowden of Tioga, LA.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Lewis Matthew Dowden (Donna); daughters, Allison Dowden Karamales (Charles) and Tracy Llyn Dowden LeBlanc (Timothy); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Dowden Blair; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staffs at Colfax Rehab and Nursing Home (Colfax, LA) and Heart of Hospice (Alexandria, LA) for their compassionate care of our Dad.
