Obituary of Hugh Meredith Daniels
Hugh Meredith Daniels, son of the late Hugh Robert and Helen Garnett Daniels, was born on April 20, 1951, in Enfield, N.C. God, in his infinite wisdom, called Hugh home to eternal rest on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. His family was at his side during his transition to ease his journey home.
In 1975, Hugh was united in marriage to Marenda Roundtree. From this union God blessed them with two sons. His oldest son, Hugh Meredith Daniels, Jr., preceded him in death. He later married the late Robin Seawell and from this union was blessed with one son and three stepchildren.
Hugh attended Baltimore City public schools and was a graduate of the 1969 Class of Paul Lawrence Dunbar
Senior High. He attended both Morgan State and Delaware State University and received his B.S. in Accounting
from Delaware State. During that time, Hugh pledged and became a member of the Groove Phi Groove
Fraternity and remained active and in touch with the brotherhood up to the time of his passing. Hugh moved to
Atlanta, GA. in 1995 to attend I.T.C. (Interdenominational Theology Center) Morehouse School of Religion
where he graduated in 1998 and received his Master of Arts in Christian Education (M.A.C.E.).
Hugh, affectionately known to family and friends as "Mert," was a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Hugh LOVED THE LORD and was a true disciple. His loyalty, sacrifice, obedience, love and fruitfulness
for Jesus was unquestionable. A faithful Christian follower, leader, and teacher, Hugh made it his life's work to
practice "Aggressive Planning Evangelism." He dedicated an innumerable amount of time preaching the gospel
and sharing his faith with family, friends, and strangers. As a result of this practice, Hugh created "Project
P.E.A.C.E. Ministries (Prison Emancipation Alliances for Civil Enhancement). He volunteered as a
Community Chaplain at hot spots throughout Maryland and also ministered in the streets, hospitals, prisons,
and the pulpit. Hugh was an Ordained Minister and through his faith, teachings, and love of God was
successful in bringing many of his family, friends and acquaintances into the ministry and Christian faith.
An avid swimmer, Hugh worked as a lifeguard at the Patterson Park Pool in East Baltimore during the
summer of his high school years. He also worked as an Accountant at then Sears, Roebuck and Co. before
their closing at North Ave. and Harford Rd. As a previous longtime member of Union Baptist Church, Hugh managed the Church Food Bank under the direction of the late Pastor Vernon N. Dobson who he loved like a father. Hugh was also a member of the Dunbar Poets basketball team and was on the Junior Varsity Team for Delaware State. Hugh was a very determined individual and loved spending time with his family and just basically loved people. Generous to a fault, he was known for giving you his last dollar and the shirt off of his back. He never hesitated to help anyone if it was in his power to do so.
Hugh leaves to cherish fond memories; 3 sons, Clifford and Tyrone Daniels and Warren Drones; two
daughters, Kayla Daniels and Keisha Perry; three brothers, Donnell, Melvin and Steven Daniels; a devoted
sister, Joanne Daniels; four grandchildren, Lashia, Shanna, and Tyai Daniels, and Nigeria; three uncles,
two aunts, one niece and a host of nephews, and other relatives and friends. He also leaves to cherish his
memory two very special and close friends, Minister Clarence Booker and Sister Melva Jones.
Funeral rites will be conducted through the EAST location of Vaughn Greene Funeral Services (4905 York Rd. 21212). The funeral ceremony will take place at Zion Baptist Church (Temporary Site) - 5701 York Road 21212. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 10:30AM with the service to follow. The interment will take place at Moreland Memorial Park, immediately following services.
