Hugh Junior Swilley, age 89, of Austell passed away peacefully February 20, 2024.
Hugh was a long-time member of Orange Hill Baptist Church and served as the building's caretaker for many years. He would fix anything that went wrong, from plumbing to paint, and would take a daily walk around the building to make sure everything was sound. Hugh's faith was very important to him; he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and read his Bible daily.
His joys were repairing lawnmowers, woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his grands. Hugh was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother that will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Evelyn Swilley; and sisters, Nellie Lively and Jean Leavins.
Hugh is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Griswell and husband, Gary of Dallas; siblings, Kenneth Swilley, LaGran Holton, Marvin Swilley and wife, Frances, and Eldon Swilley; grandchildren, Justin Griswell and wife, Kaylie, and Heather Stephens and husband, Ethan; great-grandchildren, Pypper Griswell, Nellie Stephens, and Cooper Stephens; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring Hugh's life will be held Tuesday, February 27th, 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Crest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
