It is with a profound sense of loss coupled with cherished memories that we announce the passing of Ian James Pequignot, who soared into the arms of the angels on June 11, 2025 at the tender age of 7. Born on March 31, 2018, in
Cincinnati, Ohio, Ian, fondly known as "Smiley," brought boundless joy and laughter to everyone he encountered. His infectious smile was only outshone by his laughter-a melody that will echo in the hearts of all who loved him.
As the beloved little brother of Jay, Ian had a knack for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary adventures. Together, the family spent countless hours battling in Fortnite, strategizing in board games, and forging epic quests with swords and lightsabers, powered by Ian's vibrant imagination. Ian was not just a spirited game player; he was a brilliant mind with a love of math.
Ian's time at Crosby Elementary was filled with friendships and nurturing teachers who recognized his unique spirit. He would have wholeheartedly embraced the wonder of being a second grader this fall, bringing his love for learning and camaraderie to the classroom once more. On the field, he celebrated the thrill of soccer with the Upward league and TCYO, relishing in every moment. He also spent many hours playing football with his father, Jason, and running through the yard with uncontained energy.
The Pequignot family holds close the memories of their adventures together, especially their enchanting trip to Disney-a testament to Ian's spirited love for life. His passions for Star Wars, Legos, Marvel Comics, and Harry Potter, as well as his enthusiasm for movies and books, painted a vibrant tapestry of a boy who lived fully, loved deeply, and filled every moment with joy.
Ian's legacy of love will continue to shine through his parents, Jason Pequignot and Erin Gerrety-Pequignot; his grandparents, Tim & Dianne Gerrety and Larry (Nikki Comer) Pequignot; his aunts and uncles, including Jeremy (Julie) Pequignot, Sarah (Eric) Freel, and Allison (Spencer) Burke; along with his cherished cousins, Elise (Sam) Otten, Josephine & Eric Jr. Freel, and Sylas Burke. He will be lovingly remembered by his classmates and the devoted staff at Crosby Elementary.
In celebration of Ian's vibrant life, a visitation will be held at Legacy Christian Church, 210 North Vine Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030, on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10 AM until the time of the funeral at 1 PM, with Pastor Doug Wallin, Upwards soccer coach, officiating. Following the heartfelt service, the family will lay Ian to rest at New London Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Greater Cincinnati in his memory, celebrating his lifelong love of cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets.
As we gather to honor Ian's remarkable spirit, let us reflect upon the light he brought into our lives and the joy of knowing him. While his time with us was far too brief, his memory and the love he shared will forever be a part of us.
