Ian Simpson Obituary

Published by Voran Funeral Home on Jan. 21, 2007.
Simpson, Ian Eric Knox. January 19, 2007. Age 24. Of Dearborn.

From Lindbergh to Dearborn High, and on to the Player’s guild of Dearborn; Ian was a born entertainer. He received a Page Award for the 2004-05 season for his performance in the Dearborn Theater Association’s production of “Our Town.” Though he moved easily between comedy, musicals and drama; he will be best remembered for his portrayals of Danny Zuko, Curly, and Conrad Birdie. Ian was also the “Voice of the Pioneers.” You’ve probably seen him in his most recent performance – a commercial for Little Caesars Pizza!

Ian is survived by his loving parents, Lori & Cory Rodriguez of Dearborn, Jeff & Gloria Simpson of Lathrup Village. Brothers Jeffrey (Lisa), Garrett, Drew, and Aaron, and his “favorite girl,” niece Kennedy. He will be greatly missed by his grandparents, aunts & uncles, sixteen cousins & 2 step-brothers.

Ian, we’ll see you again someday. Save us tickets for one of your shows when we get up there.

Memorials in Ian’s name can be made to the Players Guild of Dearborn’s Building Fund, P.O. Box 2617, Dearborn, MI 48123.

Visitation will be held at the Dearborn Chapel of Voran Funeral Home, 23701 Ford Rd., on Tuesday from 2-9 PM & Wednesday from 2-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at Parkside Church of Christ, 17200 W. Outer Dr., Dearborn Heights. Ian will be instate at 10:30 AM until time of service at 11 AM.

I knew at first glance when I saw Ian's obituary & picture in the Dearborn Press and Guide that it was the young man I knew as "Conrad Birdie" from the Player's Guild production of Bye Bye Birdie (and many others). He captivated me that night with his immense talent. My sincere sympathy and prayers to all his family and friends (many I am sure). When my time comes and I go to that "better place" I will be buying season tickets to his shows. He was so talented. Charleen

Cory & Lori:
Just a quick note to say how overwhelmed Diane and I were at Ian's service to see everyone and hear all the wonderful stories about his life. I can't begin to tell you how sorry we are for his loss, and of course you're all in our prayers and we know your faith will see you through this.

You must be very, very proud of ALL of your boys today...as I told Jeff Jr. if their intent was, as he said, to honor their brother then they all did a heck of a job under the most emotional circumstances. Having just made a similiar speech for my Dad's ceremony last week, I was very touched by their courage.

I was especially proud of Drew (I guess I've got a soft spot for the youngest). Call me on my direct line anytime you guys want to chat, we're always here for you.

It seems like yesterday we were rehearsing for Oklahoma together. It's crazy how fast the time goes by...Ian was a wonderful person and he always managed to make everyone laugh. Ian is now at peace with the Lord. Just know that he is always going to be remembered and his memory will live on through all of those he has touched. You are all in my thoughts and prayers...

We wish we had the words to express the deep sadness and grief that each of you feel at this most difficult of times. As parents, we can only dream of the pain you all must be suffering. Remember that even in the darkest of hours God is still there and Ian as well. Someday we'll all be up there in that big theater of the sky and watching him or performing again with with him. He has had a profound affect on many people -- his friendship, his talent, his laughter and mischievous smile. May you find peace knowing that he is no longer suffering and that you will see him again.

Mr. & Mrs. Rodriguez, Mr. & Mrs. Simpson, Jeff, Lisa, Garrett, Drew, and all of Ian's family and friends-

My most loving thoughts, memories, and condolences are with you during this difficult time. It was a privilege to be part of Ian's first production at the Guild and many after. Most importantly, however, Ian's genuine, close friendship meant the world to me. Ian was always there to help me - all of us - celebrate life, and I will now celebrate his life in everything I do.

I pray constantly for God's strength and peace for you and everyone who knew Ian.

I miss you immensely, buddy.
