Watervliet - Susan Baumanis Carlson RPh, 60, died suddenly surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Susan was the daughter of the late Arvids and the late Velta Baumanis and wife of Craig A. Carlson. She was born in the Bronx, NY and resided mostly in Watervliet. She graduated from Watervliet High School in 1982 with high honors and was a member of the National Honor Society. Sue's love of math and science coupled with her desire to help people led her to the State University of New York at Buffalo. She graduated from the School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987. Following graduation, Susan had a lengthy career as a retail pharmacist for 35 years, retiring in 2022.
Survivors in addition to her husband include two sisters, Baiba (Mark) Spangler, Statham, GA, and Dace (Mark) Tricchinelli. Susan is also survived by her mother-in-law, Carol Carlson; brother-in-law, Rob Carlson (Pat Donahue); sisters-in-law, Jennifer Kimber, Courtney (John) Rees, Nicole (Steve) Swinton. Susan was predeceased by her sister, Mara Baumanis and by her father-in-law, Mayor Robert Carlson.
She loved her nieces and nephews, Jason Miscedra, Kate Spangler, Rob (Lenore) Tricchinelli, Peter (Nicole) Tricchinelli, Samantha Kimber, Josh (Kendra) Kimber, Joel Kimber, Kit Rees, Daniel Rees, Maxwell Rees, Nora Rees, Jack Swinton and Will Swinton; a grandnephew, Johnny Tricchinelli and a grandniece, Liliana Tricchinelli.
Susan adored her family and friends. She was especially close to her mother and the family takes comfort that she is reunited with her mom, dad and sister. Susan loved to cook and travel with Craig. Susan was proud of her Latvian heritage and returned to Latvia with her mother to see their family. Susan loved that she hailed from the Bronx and adored the New York Yankees. She cherished her time in Buffalo during college and was a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Susan was an avid animal lover and adored her late golden retriever, Brutus.
Susan and Craig were married in 2007 with her father-in-law Mayor Robert Carlson performing the ceremony in his office at Watervliet City Hall. Susan and Craig celebrated their wedding anniversary last month. Susan wrote a card that read: "Craig, thanks for giving me a lifetime of joy and love. Love eternally, Susan."
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 10-11AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM with Rev. Jeff Silvernail officiating. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery Menands.
