In Loving Memory of Immanuel Kendrick Maikori July 17, 2009 – July 13, 2025

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we share the passing of Immanuel Kendrick Maikori, who transitioned peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2025, just days before his 16th birthday.

Born on July 17, 2009, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, Immanuel entered the world with a warrior’s heart, literally and figuratively. Diagnosed early in life with a congenital heart condition, he underwent open-heart surgery at just 8 months old. From that moment forward, Immanuel lived each day with a strength and resilience that inspired everyone around him. He was a fighter from the beginning until the end.

Immanuel was a force, or as the kids today would say, he had aura. Full of charisma, confidence, and undeniable charm, he lit up every room he walked into. He had the rare gift of making everyone feel seen and celebrated. Whether he was cracking a joke, hyping up a crowd, or leading younger kids at church, Immanuel made sure everyone knew they mattered.

He was actively involved in the youth ministry at Eastminster, where he not only participated, he led. He had a heart for service, a gift for connection, and a personality that couldn’t be ignored. Immanuel would have been a Junior at Andover High School this fall. He loved hanging out with his best friends Will, Valon, Alec, and Isaac, playing basketball, refereeing, and a genuine love of old school music. He never missed a chance to turn an ordinary moment into something memorable.

Immanuel is survived by his loving parents, Ishaku Ibrahim Maikori and Kendra Ann Maikori (née Grubbs), and his four siblings, Isaiah Ibrahim Maikori, Isaac Thomas Maikori, Ilias Joseph Maikori, and Imani Ann Maikori, who all adored him. He also leaves behind his proud paternal grandparents, Ibrahim Audu Maikori and Hannatu Gaiya Maikori (née Jatau), his aunt Nponano Lamido Maikori, uncles Shu-nom Ibrahim Maikori and Kenton Thomas (KT) Grubbs Jr., and a large extended network of family, friends, classmates, church family, and others who loved him like their own.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenton Thomas Grubbs Sr. and Virginia A. Grubbs (nee Armentrout), whom we know welcomed him into eternal peace with open arms.

Though Immanuel's time on Earth was brief, his impact will live on. His presence, laughter, love, and leadership are etched into the hearts of all who knew him. He was our light, our joy, and our heartbeat — and he will be forever missed.
