Imogene Dismuke

Imogene (Brooks) Dismuke of Krebs, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 26, 2025, at the age of 84.
The family will greet friends, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2025 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church, 500 E. Lincoln Ave. McAlester officiated by Jamie Kirkpatrick, Grant Ledbetter, and Zane Brooks. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester.
Pallbearers will be, Justin Avery, Micah Avery, Hunter Leichner, Timothy Sullivan, Eddy Brooks and Patrick McGuire.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, great grandsons Daimon, Daniel, Shon and Samuel Ellis, Conner Avery, Noah, Luke and Abel Avery, Kelsie Counts, Monty Leichner, Sean Coyle, Johnny Dismuke, Toy Wingo and David Bailey.
Imogene was born on January 23, 1941, in Krebs, the daughter of William Benjamin and Dorothy Lucille (Thompson) Brooks. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at age nine at Victory Park Baptist Church and later served faithfully at Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester.
On May 13, 1958, she married the love of her life, Roy Lee "Bud" Dismuke. They shared 58 beautiful years together before Bud woke up in heaven on October 3, 2016. During their life together they raised their three treasured daughters and welcomed seven grandchildren-watching their family grow to 36 loved ones today.
Imogene was a generous, loving, and steadfast woman of God. She trusted deeply in the power of prayer, adored her family and friends, and fiercely loved her America. To her, every part of life was a "party." She found any excuse to celebrate the people she loved and the blessings of each day. Her years as president of the McAlester Rancherettes suited her perfectly, because she adored all things pretty-horses, a touch of sparkle on vests, boots and dresses, faux flowers, shades of purple, and every kind of holiday decoration, especially at Christmastime.
A lover of music, Imogene sang with her siblings in their family group, the Gospelheirs. There was always a song in her heart and in her home.
For twenty years, Imogene and Bud retired to their beloved home-away-from-home in the Kiamichi Mountains, cherishing every moment. Her gift of hospitality followed her everywhere she went. She cooked countless meals for campers, students, families, preachers, friends, and shut-ins-she was, in many ways, the original Meals on Wheels.
To know Imogene was to love her. To see her was to witness joy and Jesus. To hear her was to hear hope, unconditional love, southern gospel music, and often a Christmas carol. She never met a stranger, and if she ever told you "I love you," she meant it with all her heart.
Imogene was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas Benjamin and Maggie (Law) Brooks, and John and Laura Emily Thompson; her parents, William "Bill" and Dorothy Brooks; her beloved husband, Roy Lee "Bud" Dismuke; her father-in-law and mother- in-law, William and Oda Dismuke; and her siblings, Carl (Dee) Brooks, Billy (Marie) Brooks, and brother-in-law Bob Brannon.
She is survived by her siblings Ed (Joanne) Brooks and Norma Brannon; her children Connie (Kelsie) Counts, Norma (Monte) Leichner, and Sandra (Sean) Coyle; her grandchildren Cheri (Greg) Ellis, Micah (Kendra) Avery, Justin (Sky) Avery, Charity Leichner, Hunter (Thalita) Leichner, Whitney (Tim) Sullivan, and Chelsea (Dekota) Marrow; sixteen great-grandchildren-Daimon (Addie), Daniel, Shon, Samuel, Connor, Jade, Cloey (Jarred), Noah, Luke, Able, Adalie, Aurora, Anistyn, and Elliotte; one great-great-grandchild, Walker Lee; Special friends Toy and Mary Jane Wingo, David and Sherri Bailey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
