Ines Mencel

Ines Borsato Mencel, 97, died October 27 at Parker in Monroe where she resided for the past two years. Born in Italy, she immigrated to the US after World War II and lived most of her life in North Brunswick.
She initially worked for Bonds Clothing in New Brunswick before devoting her life as a stay-at-home Mom raising her three daughters. Later in life she worked for Bristol Meyers Squibb in New Brunswick. Mrs. Mencel was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Milltown and a former member of the North Brunswick Senior Citizens and the North Brunswick AARP.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, nonna and bisnonna, she lived a spirited and courageous life. She had a soft spot for children, elderly, and animals, and always offered hope to the infirmed. She cooked gourmet meals without the use of recipes, and her crostoli cookies were surpassed by none. She enjoyed wine making, gardening (especially her vegetables and roses), and playing cards with her friends. Her colorful stories of life in the old country provided many life lessons worth sharing, and her spirit and love will be missed.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert Mencel (2014) and brothers Guido and Demetrio along with her sisters Luciana and Giovanna. Surviving are her three daughters and husbands--devoted caretaker Rose and Christopher Sebold of North Brunswick; Arlene and Robert Haussermann of Virginia; Nancy and Michael Jenkins of New York; her granddaughter Kathryn Jenkins Cooke and her husband Ryan of New York and her great grandchildren, Henry, Alexa and James along with nieces and nephews in Italy.
Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Gleason Funeral Home of North Brunswick, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be on Saturday, at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown. Entombment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick.
