Iona M. Henderson, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the age of 82. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Henderson, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Nashua NH., Iona was the daughter of the late Frances M. (Savill) May and Arthur G. Ford, and the grand-daughter of the late Walter H. Savill and Hattie M. (Davis) Savill. She graduated from Westford Academy and spent the majority of her career working at Sears until she retired.
Iona was known for her endearing smile and happy go-lucky attitude. Around the holidays, she had a little extra cheer with her full collection of snowmen on display. The house always smelled of baked goods as Iona would make delectable baked breads and cookies, sharing the joy of baking with her daughters.
Iona was always up for an adventure. She loved traveling New England with her family and was always excited to take the "scenic route" with Bob or have a picnic on the beach. In addition to sharing their love, Bob and Iona shared many passions including tracing their roots through genealogy, enjoying a parade, spending time with family and friends and their dedication to their church. She shared her love of faith with others by singing in the church choir and crocheting prayer shawls for others in need. Iona was also an active member of the Dunstable Grange and frequently gave blood to the American Red Cross – as often as they would allow her to.
She was a hardworking and kind-hearted woman who spent her life giving of her time and love. Iona will be greatly missed by her daughters, Brenda Henderson and Barbara (Henderson) Thomas and her husband Michael Thomas; her grandchildren, Daniel Ledoux, Emily Henderson, Felicia (Thomas) Maloney and her husband Erik Maloney as well as her brother Arthur H. Ford, half-siblings Richard Ford, Michael Ford, William Ford, Betsy Rotondo and Jessie McIntyre and their spouses, and her cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 9am to 11am at the Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut followed by a service in the funeral home at 11am. Interment will be held privately.
Donations may be made in her memory to the American Red Cross at redcross.org or to Christ Church United of Dracut at ccudracut.org.

Iona is and always will be a stellar member among the Ford family who loves her dearly. And she is well deserving of God's love perpetually shining on her soul.

Wonderful years in the choir of Christ Church United. What a beautiful soul. Iona had binders and binders of history of the church and of Dracut. Always at church suppers and luncheons. Always a smile! Enjoy your reward, Iona. Rest in His arms and enjoy all His promises.
