Irene J. Egner (née Miner) passed away peacefully on September 21st at the age of 92. Born in Rockford, Illinois in 1933, Irene was a devoted wife, sharing 71 years of marriage with her late husband Ronald J. Egner.
Irene was a lifelong lover of the arts, music and sports, an accomplished traveler and a friend to all she knew. A gifted artist, in 1972 she created a "temporary" jewelry class at Cranbrook Kingswood, building a one semester course into a legacy that remains today while inspiring many beloved students with her creativity and infectious spirit. She volunteered her time at Beaumont Hospital and as a caregiver to her grandchildren, spreading kindness and sharing her nurturing spirit. She enjoyed playing bridge, swimming, bowling, tennis and golf, and playing regularly with friends at Forest Lake Country Club. She traveled the world with friends and loved ones - always bringing home treasured memories, stories and keepsakes. Between trips, she made her homes in the Bloomfield area with Ronald and their children - always with a pet or two by their sides.
Most important in her life was family; a loving mother to two children, Elizabeth (Nitin) Paranjpe and Jeffrey Egner. A cherished grandmother and Mormor to three grandchildren, Katelyn Wysocki, William (Madison) Stacy and Erik (Georgia) Egner, and great-grandmother to Theodore Egner and William Stacy. When not cheering for her grandchildren at their sports, scouts, concerts, and graduations, she could be found at home in her apron, lovingly preparing family meals and after school snacks. Her kitchen was the heart of the home - and in a sense, of the family - many happy memories were shared around the table, enjoying homemade apple pies or holiday gatherings.
Irene was predeceased by her brothers and sister; Art, Frank & Gerry, and survived by her dear sister Tola, along with the rest of her loving and lively family clan in Rockford, Illinois.
Irene will be laid to rest with her late husband Ron at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in
Holly, Michigan.
We will miss her very much.
~Lovingly written by family.~
