Irene Linam, age 96, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Autumn Wind Assisted Living in New Boston, Texas. She was born on May 21,1928, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to John Elmer and Francis Ira (Banks) Freeman. She married Jesse Allison Linam on April 19, 1945. They had been married 78 years at the time of Mr. Linam's death on February 3, 2024.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Francis Freeman, son Charles Elmer Linam, son Larry Clifton Linam brother Von W. Freeman, and her grand-daughter Mary Regina Linam. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Linam and husband Harold Walls of Texarkana, Texas; grandson Jeff Linam and wife Wendy of Rio Vista, Texas; granddaughter Jennifer Cortez of Linden, Texas; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Irene will always be remembered for her love and service to her church, and all who knew her describe her as "sweet and kind". She was a wonderful cook, and a talented seamstress. After raising her family, Irene went to cosmetology school and opened her own beauty shop, which was built by Jesse at their home. Later, as Deputy Grand Matron of Eastern Star she traveled Texas and made lifetime friends. She resided at Autumn Wind Assisted Living in New Boston, Texas, at the time of her death.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Bates-Rolf Funeral Home in New Boston, Texas. Visitation will be held at 1:00 P.M. prior to the funeral. Irene will lie in state at the funeral home from Tuesday until the time of the funeral. There will be no graveside service.
Interment will be in Woodmen Cemetery, DeKalb, Texas, under the direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home.
