Irvin Stevens Obituary

Irvin Eugene Stevens passed away suddenly on October 18, 2025. He was born on June 19, 1937, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, to the late Irvin O. Young and Alma M. Stevens. As a young man growing up in Pennsylvania, he was known to family and friends as “Gene.”

After graduating from high school in 1955, Irvin joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Spokane, Washington, where he proudly served as a B-52 mechanic and earned the title of Airman of the Month. His service took him to the British Isles, Guam, and Hawaii.

After completing his military service, Irv relocated to Akron, Ohio, with his best friend, Tom Abernathy. There, he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Huskey. The two were married and shared 62 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love, laughter, and faith. Along with finding a life partner, Irv also became a devoted stepfather to Betty’s five children - Michael Nipper, Michelle Finklestein, Brett Huskey, Kim Lamb, and Jeanine Randall. Irv never sought to replace their father but instead offered them steady love and care as an additional father figure in their lives.

Irv and Betty were later blessed with a daughter, Erin, with whom he shared a close bond. She was the light of his life, and he took immense pride and joy in being her father.

Over the years, Irv was also blessed to become a grandfather to 17, great-grandfather to 28, and great-great-grandfather to 6.

During his time in the Air Force, Irv was affectionately nicknamed “Steve,” a name that stuck with him for the rest of his life-especially among the kids-because, as he liked to joke, “Irvin is an old man’s name!” But above all, when asked what name he loved best, he would smile and say, “The best name I’ve ever been called is Dad.”

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Irv was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders, the Cleveland Guardians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was also an active member and former Ministerial Servant of the Cuyahoga Falls Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses on State Road.

Irv had a passion for tinkering and creativity-he collected clocks, made lamps in his spare time, and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Rankin, and his beloved wife, Betty. He is survived by his daughter Erin; grandchildren Hannah, Bo, and Alex Linton; and great-grandchildren Jaylyn and Terrel Thomas and Violet Linton.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Lions Park, 641 Silver Lake Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Brother Mitch Fuhrer will give a talk at the Cuyahoga Falls Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3806 State Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls at 5:00 p.m., also on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Irv will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving man who touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
