Obituary of Irving Alan Schornstein
Irving Alan Schornstein, 66, of Freehold passed away after a long courageous battle with brain cancer at home on Monday, April 29, 2024. Irv, as he was affectionately known by all, was a man defined by open roads, a good bourbon & a cigar, and a love for his family. He was born in Alexandria, VA and was raised and had lived in East Brunswick. Irv moved to Freehold in 2011. He retired from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 2021 as a heavy-duty mechanic having worked at Newark Airport, the Lincoln Tunnel, and JFK Airport. Prior to this, Irv worked for PSE&G, New Brunswick, International Truck, Howell, was the owner for IAS Trucking, East Brunswick, the Hess Brothers, Parlin and was a partner at Half-Ass Autobody, Jackson
His love affair with automobiles began at the tender age of 16 when he purchased his 1969 Chevy Nova. He spent countless hours tinkering in his garage, transforming the Nova into an extension of his personality. His Nova remained his lifelong companion, a testament to his dedication and affection for a bygone era.
However, Irv's true passion roared on two wheels. A Harley-Davidson enthusiast, he had traversed the country on his motorcycle, with his last love, his wife, Eve, leaving his mark in all but 6 states. From the winding coastal highways to the vast expanses of the heartland, Irv collected memories with every mile, with friends who became family along the way.
He was a familiar sight at J.S. Hogs, Howell Trap Club at E.H. Salomon, and a part of C.R.A.V.E. Racing and TGS Racing (#BAK) and always up for a good time and a helping hand.
Irv may be gone, but his spirit will forever echo on the open road, the rumble of a Harley and the taste of Jack and his girlfriend, Ginger.
He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Audrey Schornstein; his canine companions, Yogi and Jameson; and his feline friend, Percy. Irv is survived by his wife, Eve, who will love him more; stepchildren, Raymond Tremer, III and his wife, Lisa, Allison Russell and her husband, Richard, Ashley VanDerclute and her husband, Dan; a grandson and buddy, RayRay; a sister, Robin Carroll; his brother, Craig Schornstein and his partner, Manny Vieira; nephew, Billy Carroll and his wife, Megan; niece, Sarah Jaronsky and her husband, D.J.; great-nieces, Peyton and Hailey; great-nephew, Liam; and numerous dear friends.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 10:30 AM for the procession to his entombment at 12:00 Noon at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery, 361 Route 79, Marlboro.
