Isaac Van "Ike" Midgett

Isaac "Ike" Van Midgett, age 85, died on May 28, 2025, at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation. Born on September 5, 1939, in Manteo, NC, to the late George Lewis Midgett and Beatrice Midgette Midgett, he was the beloved husband of Lucy Old Midgett for 63 years. Ike lived a life characterized by dedication and service. He served his country with honor and distinction, retiring as a Senior Chief after a commendable 20-year career in the United States Coast Guard. His commitment to duty and excellence left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Ike loved his family and worked for what he had. He was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and considered fishing a favorite pastime.
In addition to his wife, Lucy Midgett, Ike is survived by two sisters, Janet M. Tillett and Betty M. Duncan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Ike's legacy of service and devotion to his family and country will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Evangelical Methodist Church, 820 Old Okisko Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909, with the Rev. Richard Meservy officiating.
