It is with disbelief and endless sorrow we announce the tragic passing of our beloved only son, Shay, on May 12, 2024, while exploring the Bavarian Alps. Born in Manhattan, NY, Shay grew up in the beautiful north country where he found great joy in nature. Shay attended preschool at SUNY-Plattsburgh, where he is still remembered for his sweet smile and gorgeous curls. He attended Seton Academy, where he excelled in academics, theater, and music. Shay's time at Plattsburgh High School was marked by participation in Fermata Nowhere, orchestra, chorus, and sports. During his freshman year as a Marine Cadet at Norwich University, VT, Shay made incredible strides toward his goal of becoming a United States Marine Corps Officer, including physical and emotional maturity and leadership skills: "We marched in the Labor Day parade this morning all throughout Northfield. I like marching very much. Every muscle must be tight, every ligament must work together to create a perfect machine-step. I also just attended the first jiu jitsu meeting. Great fun. Not so sick anymore, my head hurts a little, but tomorrow I must muster all my strength for the first Semper Fi Indoc session. All Love, Shay."
Across all settings Shay made friends because of his amazing personality, intellectual brilliance, generosity, and great heart. Shay will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
An avid reader and passionate writer, Shay found inspiration in history, literature, and social affairs. His other joys included his dogs Shira and Tommy, jiu jitsu, ice fishing, biking, camping, movies, music, and cooking.
Shay was a loving son, grandson, and nephew. Family was of utmost importance to Shay and his deep love for his family and unwavering integrity will be remembered and cherished by all of us. Shay is survived by his parents Sadie and Gabriel, grandmother Fatima, uncle Samir, aunts Tatyana and Lana, cousins Farkhad and Chingiz, great uncle Zeynal, great aunts Karina and Valida, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles in Israel, Azerbaijan, and Germany.
Our darling Shay, you were our guiding light, and so you will remain. You were so full of life though it was too brief and incomparable.
