Jack Fisher Contor died on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho, where he had resided since 2015 after suffering a stroke.
Jack was born June 10, 1927, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Adam J. Contor and Louise Fisher Contor. His younger years were spent on the family sheep ranching operation on First Street in Idaho Falls.
At a young age, he became fascinated with the local Shoshone-Bannock culture and immersed himself in learning all he could,he was adopted by Willie and Cora George. As he aged, he became friends with many of the Shoshone-Bannock people and participated in many cultural activities and ceremonies, including hide tanning and crafts; war dancing; and the Sun Dance.
Jack wanted to serve in the United States Navy and joined a few days after his 17th birthday at the end World War II. He served three years until he was medically discharged for severe hearing loss.
He married Carol Bridges. To this union three children were born: daughter, Peggy, and sons, John and Dan. Jack and Carol later divorced.
After obtaining his college degree, he worked for the State of Idaho as a social worker for a number of years. After leaving employment with the State of Idaho, he worked for the United States Postal Service for many years, until receiving a 100% disability rating from the Veterans Administration because of his service-connected hearing loss.
