In Loving Memory
Jack Barton Frost
October 15, 1947 - April 28, 2025
BREWERTON, NY - Jack Barton Frost, 77, of
Brewerton, New York, passed away peacefully, at home on Monday, April 28, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Syracuse to the late Clarence "Jack" Frost and Dorothy Thornton (Whitton) and graduated from North Syracuse High School. Jack is predeceased by his loving wife Carol, who passed away in January, and whom he had just celebrated his fifty-year anniversary with.
Jack honorably retired from the United States Army National Guard in 2007 after a long career and two enlistments. He proudly served as the 27th Brigade Headquarters Company 1st Sergeant toward the end of his career. Jack was a Lieutenant and instructor in the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department, Special Deputy unit. Service to his nation and community were Jack's calling, and the camaraderie of his time in service were a true highlight of his life.
Along with his wife Carol, and later his son Thomas, Jack was a lifelong lover of history and believed deeply in preserving and sharing it. The former Deputy Commander of the Brigade of the American Revolution living history organization, Jack spent the Bicentennial traveling and speaking about the nation's founding. He and Carol were also residents of Sacket's Harbor where Jack was an employee of New York State Parks. Involved in interpretive living history from eras spanning the French and Indian War through World War II, Jack's father-in-law Edmund Kieszkowski lovingly and humorously referred to him as the "veteran of all wars".
Jack was a lifelong resident of Brewerton, first as a child and then again beginning in 1974 when he, wife Carol, and father Clarence built their home on Orangeport Rd. Jack was a loving and involved father with Thomas, having spent many years as a Cub and Boy Scout leader and was, as both referred to one another, his buddy. Jack was a deep well of knowledge, incredibly gregarious and generous with his time and mentorship, and became fast friends with all he knew.
Jack is survived by his son Thomas Edmund Frost of Brewerton; half-brother Neil Thornton, sisters-in-law MaryAnne (Shawn) Langdon, Dorothy Knittel and brother-in-law Edmund (Karen) Kieszkowski; nieces Erin Bortel and Katie Knittel. He is predeceased by father-in-law Edmund Kieszkowski and mother-in-law Dorothy (Potter) Kieszkowski, brother-in-law Robert Knittel and nephew Christopher Potanas. He is also survived by Thomas' dear friends, many of whom he mentored through living history for many years, and who grew to be such a part of the Frost family, he thought of them very much as his own.
A Service of Remembrance with Full Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 in Riverside Cemetery,
Brewerton, NY. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. 9525 S. Main Street,
