Mr. Jack Nelson Harris, age 88 of Athens, Georgia, beloved husband of 65 years to Magdalene Harris, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 22, 2024. Mr. Harris was born in Gadsden, Alabama, the son of the late George W. Harris and late Lena Mae Suits. In addition, Mr. Harris is preceded by his sisters, Ann Jones and Sandra Deppe.
After graduating high school, Mr. Harris joined the U.S. Army where he became an E4 Specialist. Mr. Harris attended Clemson University and then the University of Georgia where he received his bachelor’s degree. Mr. Harris was an instructor at Athens Technical School for 28 years where he taught Machine Tool Technology, Math, and Drafting and Design. Mr. Harris was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church and a 65 year member of the Lavonia Masonic Lodge #241.
Survivors in addition to his wife, include three children: Keith (Maria) Harris, Teresa (Sammy) Cofer, and Jackie (Michael) Cragg; eight grandchildren: Michael (Cassandra) Harris, John (Jamie) Harris, Kris Harris, Danielle (Robert) McVay, James Cofer, Samantha (Dustin) Cofer, Malachi Sims and Eden Marcengill; and eleven great-grandchildren: Jackson Harris, Madison Harris, Dash Harris, Ryker Harris, Mickey Harris, Grace Harris, Avan Harris, Harper Harris, Brandon Harris, Kaylee Madison McVay, and Reece McVay.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service.
