Jack Mayfield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home North on Jan. 14, 2026.
Jack Owen Mayfield, 83, of Fair Grove, Missouri, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 13, 2026.

He was born on July 16, 1942, in Halfway, Missouri. As a teen, Jack came to know Jesus as his savior at Black Oak Schoolhouse, west of Tin Town, Missouri. He was a member of Fair Grove First Baptist Church where he attended faithfully, until declining health prevented him from doing so.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Phyllis Kepley on August 3, 1962. The two shared 63 years of marriage, which came to include 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 ½ great-great-grandchildren.

Jack worked at Dayco for 24 years before realizing his dream of starting his own business, Mayfield Trucking, where he picked up milk from several local dairies.

Jack was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, KC Chiefs, NASCAR and dirt racing. He also loved Country music. He coached baseball and basketball teams. More importantly, he loved his family, including those joining the family well after being born. He was known for stating that his home had "no steps." His booming voice and jovial laughter will be sorely missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Farris and Ivalene (Tannehill) Mayfield, his sister, Billye (Pete) Chandler, son-in-law, Tim Stokes, daughter-in-law, Meggie (Daniel) Mayfield, grandson, Seth Drope, and great-grandson, Shane Womack; also, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dale and Helen Kepley, Adrian and Shirley Kepley, and Harold Hartley.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, daughter, Lori Mayfield Stokes, Duane (Beverly) Mayfield, David (Tammy) Mayfield, and Daniel Mayfield, all of Fair Grove, Missouri; grandchildren: Jameson Stokes, Jared (Alison) Stokes, Renee (Joey) Wilson, Ethan McKay, Lori (Andy) Thoren, Kyle (Mackensie) Mayfield, Megan (Kyle) Howerton, Dustin (Kinzie) Mayfield, Kim Womack, Sara Davis, Robbie Womack and bonus grandsons Zac Fraker and Caleb Davis.; great-grandchildren: Emilie, Benjamin, Morgan, Evander, Kelly, Zeb, Nathan, Collyns, Gideon, Dakota, PJ, Shayla, Cayson, Addi, and Quinn; great-great- grandchildren: Millie, Gracie, Noah, and one on the way; bonus brother, Scott Fraker.

I can remember back when you and Sue got married and then over the years just family get together. Always a great time. We usually got to see you guys at least once a year while mother was still alive. But over these past few years with the sisters getting sick and mother getting sick. It´s been pretty hard to get it together. But when we did, we had some great great times. Prayers to Sue and the kids and family. I know this is a sad time but all the fun memories will help you get through. Love to all of you, Dixie and Bert.
