McBee, S.C.
We are saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Jack Edward Rhoad, age 77 who passed away at Carolina Pines RMC on January 6, 2025.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 9, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Dan Papineau will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in the McBee Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 at the funeral home.
Jack could do a little bit of just about anything, and a lot of most things. He could build, weld, and grow things. He could do electrical, plumbing, and logging. He was a full-time farmer, skid-steer operator, and rural mail carrier (not all at the same time). But perhaps the titles he excelled at the most were Dad and PaPa. To his children and grandchildren, he hung the moon. A beautiful soul, to know Jack was to love him. He was a humble and generous man who would do anything he could to help others. Respected in the community, you would be hard pressed to hear anything other than a kind word spoken about him.
He was a faithful member of St. Mary the Virgin Mother parish in Hartsville, SC where he served as an usher for over fifty years. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Betty Sue. Surviving are two sons, Jason (LaDonna) Rhoad of Hartsville and Brian Rhoad of McBee, 5 grandchildren, Jack, Clare, Patrick, Thomas, and Catherine as well as many nieces and nephews. Papa was a giant of a man in more ways than one and leaves behind an incredible legacy of faith, selflessness, and love. He will be missed immensely.
