Jack Wayne Schmidt, 70, of Ringwood, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, June 13, 2025. Born on November 18, 1954, in Wellington, Kansas, to Joseph and Anna Mae Schmidt, Jack lived a life full of grit, laughter, and deep love. He was loud. He was stubborn. He was absolutely one of a kind—and if you ever had the privilege of knowing him, you know the world just got a little quieter without him in it.
Jack had expectations—high ones—and while he never sugarcoated anything, you always knew where you stood with him. You never had to question that. He believed in hard work, showing up early, doing the job right the first time, and never complaining about it. That work ethic lives on in each of his three children, and it's a legacy his family is proud to carry.
To Jack, life was a party to be lived and celebrated. He laughed loud, loved even louder, and told stories that got bigger and better every time he told them. He found peace in his garden, pride in a job well done, and joy in the little things—like sitting on the porch with his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Cheryl, and his loyal dog, Sammy.
He is survived by Cheryl, his wife of 50 years; his three children: Amy Martin and her husband, Chad, and their son, Oz of Weatherford; Jeff Schmidt and his wife, Julie, and their sons, Tyler, Rowdy, and Noah of Cleo Springs; and April Hicks and her husband, Kyle, and their children, Jaxon, Xander, and Emalea of Enid. Jack was a proud grandfather of seven and a steadfast presence in the lives of his family and friends.
Jack taught us how to love fiercely, work hard, and laugh louder. We’ll miss him more than words can say, but we’ll honor him every day by living the way he did—with strength, joy, and a little bit of orneriness.
