Jack Allen Schultz Sr., lovingly known as "Popi," passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025, in
Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 81. Born November 28, 1943, in Adrian, Michigan, to Robert and Helen (Calkins) Schultz, Popi lived a life of unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Popi completed his formal education up to his junior year, and received his GED. His commitment to service led him to enlist in the United States Army in 1961 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served with distinction for 32 years, retiring in 1993 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. His exemplary service included two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated unwavering courage and selflessness. Popi was a highly decorated veteran, his numerous awards a testament to his commitment and bravery: Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, two National Defense Service Medals, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit citation, Expert Marksmanship Badge Rifle, Driver Badge-wheeled Vehicles, and a Mechanic Badge. During his time in the military, Popi went back to school to further his education at Connors State College, receiving an Associate of Applied Science Degree in 1976.
On May 6, 1967, Popi married the love of his life, Russellynne Schultz, in Jellico, Tennessee. Their enduring marriage was a testament to their unwavering devotion and companionship. For 40 years, Popi dedicated his professional life to serving others as an electrician at the VA Hospital, a role reflecting his deep commitment to his country and its veterans. After retiring from this position, life slowed down for Popi and he was able to enjoy the little things in life.
Popi and Russellynne (affectionately known as Nani) shared a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in their membership at the Muskogee Boat Club and spending countless hours at their dock on Ranger Creek, fishing and enjoying each other's company. Evenings at home often found Popi engrossed in his favorite Westerns while Nani knitted, a peaceful scene reflecting their loving and enduring partnership. He was a kind and generous man, known for his easygoing nature and welcoming spirit; he never met a stranger. His warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His strong work ethic and peaceful spirit were both admirable and inspiring. He cherished his son and grandchildren fiercely, always providing a listening ear, sharing valuable life lessons, and exemplifying unconditional love. To know Popi was truly to love him.
Popi is now reunited with his beloved wife, Russellynne Schultz, and his parents, Robert and Helen Schultz. He is survived by his son, Jack Allen Schultz Jr. of
Muskogee, Oklahoma; grandson, Jack Allen "Tripp" Schultz III of Claremore, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Lydia Michelle Schultz of
Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; little brother, Larry Schultz of Adrian, Michigan; extended family, and numerous friends who will deeply miss his presence. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
