Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes - RochesterMaxine W. Schultz, 110, of Rochester, MN, was called home to Heaven on August 27, 2025 while a resident of Samaritan Bethany. She was truly blessed with a long and fulfilling life.
Maxine W. Schutz (Worrall) was born on June 20, 1915 in Huron, South Dakota to Charles and Malo (Wilson) Worrall. She married Walter W. Schultz on September 20, 1937 in Sioux Falls, SD. Maxine and her husband moved to Rochester in the early 1940's. They raised two adopted children together, Charles (Buck) and Karen Grotberg. Maxine's husband passed away in May 1972.
Maxine was employed by J.C. Penney in the downtown store for 15 years and retired from the Rochester Public School District as a cafeteria worker after 14½ years of employment.
Maxine remained active, enjoying many different types of crafts and volunteer work. From crocheting lap robes for the homebound, scrubbies from nylon net, learning the art of making decorative eggs and creating custom jewelry framed Christmas Tree art pictures. She loved to travel, which included many bus trips with Smidt Scenic Travels with her friend Laraine Ritchie. Also, a trip to the Holy Lands and Hawaii. Other adventures included two Hot Air Balloon Rides, one at age 92 and the other at 100.
She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester for 50 plus years and was very active volunteering and serving on several boards. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were known qualities. She always enjoyed her Thursday morning Bible Studies. Some of her favorite memories were at Easter when the grandchildren and great grandchildren would come to visit. Faith and family were an important part of her life.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Karen Grotberg of Sebeka; and daughter-in-law, Donis Schultz of Rochester; three grandchildren, Missie Rist and Richard (Laura) Grotberg, both of Sebeka, and Angela (Alan) Weaver of Verndale; nine great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many friends, including Roberta Anderson, who was a good friend and caregiver for her at Northgate Plaza. Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, son, son-in-law, 3 sisters and great grandson.
She lived a life filled with love, faith, volunteering and crafting. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing her, she was an amazing lady.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Samaritan Bethany and Mayo Hospice for their compassionate care for Maxine. Thank you also to the Trinity Lutheran Church family and staff, especially Pastor Lentz for his many visits; and all the friends for their love, support and prayers.
