Jackey Lynn Rodgers, 69, passed peacefully from this life, loved by his family, both near and far. He is now at rest with his father in heaven.
He met the love of his life, and soulmate, Nancy, on December 16, 1979, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They were married on August 30th, 1980, and have walked hand in hand every day since that day.
Jackey was born on April 6th, 1956 in
Hobbs, New Mexico to W.H. (Billy) Rodgers and Willie Maudine (Dean) Hazlewood, who both preceded him in death. In addition, Jackey was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Jerry Dodd, and his brother-in-law Floyd Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son, Sean and wife Emily of
Midlothian, VA, son Seth of Austin, and his amazing granddaughter Nella. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Evans of
Hobbs, NM. Jackey has many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.
He graduated from Hobbs High School in
Hobbs, New Mexico and from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering. In addition to his degree, Jackey was a licensed Professional Engineer working for both the petroleum and mining industries. Jackey worked for the Railroad Commission of Texas for 30 years and developed many lasting relationships there.
Jackey served as a deacon in the church for 38 years. Serving at the Eastside Church of Christ in
Graham, TX, Georgetown Church of Christ, and Gabriel Oaks Church of Christ.
He loved so much to do things for and with his sons. He coached more sports teams than could be counted, served as cub scout den leader, cub master, assistant scout master, and scout master. He worked concession stands and pulled band equipment for several years. He taught youth Bible classes and went on mission trips with his boys.
Jackey lived his life as a servant every day. He was never happier than when he was helping his family, his church family, his friends, neighbors, and complete strangers. He will be missed more than words can say.
The celebration of life will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Dr,
Georgetown, TX 78633, at 10 am Saturday, February 7th, with Jason Adair officiating.
