On Thursday, October 27, 2022, the remarkably talented teacher, Jacquelyn Mayer, left our midst to join her maker in Heaven. Jackie was born in Canonsburg, PA on May 12, 1936. As she advanced in the local schools, the teachers (World War 2) noted her remarkable singing voice. They allowed her to go room to room singing WWII love songs. By high school, she was already singing in the church choir.
After high school, she went to Edinboro College in PA. There she became very interested in theater and performed in many productions.
She went to Northwestern University (near Chicago) to earn her master's degree. Her first teaching assignment was in North Royalton, but after one year, she moved on to Meadville, PA where she became the high school drama/theater teacher. She continued to exchange letters and visits with Jim Mayer who was the high school theater teacher in Parma, OH.
They were married in Sacred Heart Church in Erie, PA where Jim's brother, Richard was a Priest. Valley Forge High School had just opened that year, and Jacquelyn became the English teacher and theater director. She directed 60 plays and musicals.
As a sideline, Mrs. Mayer researched, wrote, and performed one-hour sole programs about famous women at women's meetings all over Cleveland. Her other hobby was making beautiful scrapbooks from the pictures her husband took as they traveled this country, England, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and part of Africa.
Jackie was a brilliant, stylish Child of God who gave her life to teaching and helping others. She will be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Parma South Presbyterian Church, 6155 Pearl Rd., Parma Hts., OH 44130. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship. A visitation will be prior to the service from 10-10:45am at the church. Please have flowers delivered to the church between 8 and 10am on that day.

Mrs. Mayer was unique. She told us she had to lower her natural voice because it was actually really high and squeaky, which she demonstrated for the class. One of kind. RIP after your final curtain.

Mrs. Mayer gave me my love of drama and the theater. She was probably one of the most influential teachers I had at Valley Forge high school. I actually moved to Chicago go upon graduation to study costume design there. Everyone loved her and I´m sure she will be missed.

Dear Mr. Mayer, I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Mayer's passing. She was such a grand lady -- so full of life and energy and enthusiasm. She touched so many of lives with her gifts. I will always have fond memories of summer theatre and the International Thespian convention in Indiana. My thoughts and prayers to you.

I was saddened when I heard of Jackie's passing. I had the pleasure of doing her nails for many years. She taught me so much when she talked about the women in history she portrayed in her one woman shows. Always had a caring word when my mother passed, she always knew what to say. I will miss our chats and hold her near and dear to my heart. Sending deepest sympathy to her husband Jim and family
